Me Too! Keto!

If you've ever met me you won't be surprised to learn that I am overweight! What?! You didn't realise? Well, thanks for the compliment, but ignorance is not, unfortunately, bliss in this regard.

I've steadily been overweight since "the great weight loss of 2006" when I lost a bunch of weight leading up to my wedding, then started putting it back on on my honeymoon...

It's been a struggle since then, mostly a struggle to stay motivated enough to stick with something long term, make genuine lifestyle changes and lose, then keep off, the weight.

You would think that having kids would motivate, right? And it did, for a time, but, like most of my weight loss things, it didn't last and I put the weight back on. It was more recently, a month or two before the Christmas of 2017 that I went to the doctor after not feeling too great and finally decided to get a lump checked that had been there for a few years. Many a test later, I found out I had a tumor, yep, I could finally change my Arnie quote (Kindergarten Cop) and say "it IS a tumor". Not quite as dramatic as it sounds though, it was a lipoma, a benign fat tumor, at the bottom of my left rib cage. Not great, but not life threatening, so surgery would happen at some point in the future.

Well that was kind of a motivator, fat induced tumor that (while benign in this instance) could have been life threatening. So I started dieting again. Nothing too outrages, just eating healthier, no fast food, just good quality food and less of it than I normally ate. And it worked, I lost a few kilo's and was on track to keep going... then Christmas happened. Well I didn't just fall off the bandwagon, it left me in the dust as I sat on the road and stared at it moving off into the sunset, too unfit to chase after it!

Well it's been a month since Christmas and it's about time I got back to it... So, I've decided to try my hand at ketosis. No not go whole-hog into tracking every macro, but following a keto basics, no carbs, high protein, high (good) fat all within a calorie limit. Something familiar, but with a few changes. I'm hoping that focusing on the "what can I and what can't I eat" that I will get into the routine of it all.

Hey stochphoto - that actually looks pretty good, do you have a recipe for that?

I've also signed up for the 24 hour gym down the road... Again nothing crazy, but a few days a week, enough to get me moving, get me fitter, and, with any luck, get me lighter!

So here we are - writing this down in a blog as a way of making me accountable to something, even if it is a blog that no one but me actually reads!
