Day 2 of Keto (I thought the title was clever...)

I decided to follow reddit.com/r/keto and specifically the recommended first week meal plan. Doing all of my cooking for the week ahead on Sunday, I haven't had to do more than "get everything out" the night before, which tends to help me stick to the food plan I have in place. I've modified the meal plan slightly, swapping breakfast for a "Healthy Mummy" shake (yes, I'm a daddy, not a mummy, but they are low carb, high fibre, and relatively high protein). Before the keto purists tell me I'm not doing it right, I am still maintaining a 70%/25%/5% Fat/Protein/Carb caloric intake, so it's all ok! I moved the bacon and eggs into mini frittatas and am having the equivalent of half the meal plan breakfast as an afternoon snack to get me through until dinner. I've also added 15g of Almonds (plain, not salted) as a snack for the drive home so I don't get super peckish!

Yesterday was good... well OK (for a diet!) and I didn't get the huge hunger pangs that come with a VLC diet - I guess the proteins and fats help there!

One thing I did find is that I went to the toilet... A LOT!

I've stuck to the recommended water, but given that my usual beverage was of the diet soft drink variety, the amount of water is quiet high, and non-diuretic. I've since added a multivitamin and will be adding some low-carb electrolyte drink additive to my water tomorrow to make sure I've not losing the good stuff!

Day 2 has been OK again. Sparkling water is tricking my brain into thinking it's having soft drink. I realised yesterday that I really hate almond milk, must have been from the years growing up not having any nuts, and only being introduced to the flavor later in life. In the morning shake it's fine (the shake flavor overrides the almond taste), but in my coffee, EW! So I've moved onto heavy cream, just a small 20ml server in the coffee. It gives it the creamy taste, but very low carb and high fat (perfect for keto).

Exercise is helping to take the mind off of the diet. I went yesterday once I got home and it got rid of the hunger headache and got me through to dinner without any problems. Being the incredibly unfit guy I am, I'm feeling a little tender today (and a little sore near my lipoma - I'll keep an eye on that!), but not enough that will stop me jumping back in the treadmill tonight.

I'll keep you updated as things progress!
